Upon choosing to settle her family in Alberta she continued teaching in Brooks and surrounding communities, eventually moving to Calgary where she continued her career for another 12 years. She would often laugh and tell stories of the many times she found herself teaching grades 1 to 12 in one room country schools. She always spoke fondly of the four decades she taught within Alberta and Saskatchewan, and the many students she encouraged to succeed. and upon graduating she began her teaching career.
She was blessed with grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins who were involved in her childhood. Along with the farm he started driving school bus in 1959 and drove for 22 years.
He bought a farm at Govan and married Marjorie Dunlop in 1947. Ernie joined the Air Force in 1941 and was based at Cold Harbour on the north end of Vancouver Island until 1945. His family lived on a number of different farms while he was growing up including Tinley, Cuthbert, Carsbeach and Govan.
